Video marketing is no longer an option for businesses. Small and large businesses alike are using video to build their online brand while attracting more customers and even improving their search engine page rank at the same time.
1. Mobile video-watching becoming increasingly popular
Mobile video has seen incredible growth in the last few years, and is expected to continue to grow. Smartphone penetration is still increasing. Reliable 4G networks are being deployed and becoming the norm across several countries. The use of mobile devices is growing and picking up steam in emerging markets, as consumers buy newer handsets and consume more bandwidth. In fact, over a third of consumer media consumption already happens through mobile devices and mobile video-viewing will likely increase 25-fold over 2012 by 2016.
2. Popularity increase for short-form video
Short-form videos took the internet by storm when they were introduced in late 2013. In a short span of time, this video format has quickly been adapted and used by individuals and businesses alike for their simplicity and ability to deliver relevant, high-quality content in bit-sized packages. Twitter’s Vine and Insta-gram video, the two platforms that began this trend, now have 200 million users. The nature of these videos makes them great for product teasers, and animation in particular has thrived. Businesses in various industries from technology to fashion have embraced it and are rushing to produce inventive, share-able content quickly.
3. Rapid-fire, agile video marketing will be necessary
If you want to engage in video marketing, you have to be ready to shift your focus and create content on the fly. You cannot just prepare a series of videos and make them over the year; you need to respond to the current trends and popular topics and make quick videos that capitalize on them. Prepare to change your marketing approach and respond to current events, consumer feedback, hot trends and new data in real time. If you cannot do this, you will be left behind. Speed will be very important here.
4. Music and ads will combine
Music videos are the most shared videos online, which is why some businesses have begun to mix their ad videos with catchy, trendy music. The link between music and ads in not new, though. The most successful television ads and commercials are those with catchy jingles and great video content. The same is now applicable to online video marketing, but with its own twist.
5. TV advertising will become less effective
TV spots during major events like the Olympics or the Super Bowl are sold for millions of dollars, with thousands of companies clamoring for a few seconds. However, despite the fact that these ads tend to be viewed by millions, it seems fewer people actually act on the call to action at the end. They do increase brand awareness and recognition, but spending millions for an ad that does not convert especially for smaller companies would not be worth it.
We are embarking on some interesting and curious times however two things appear clear, the use of effective video marketing targeting a mobile user should be a high priority in your business strategy in 2014.
